“Most companies want to hire veterans,” says Annie Artis, Employment Coordinator, Department of Veterans Affairs Orlando. The latest program cultivates relationships between employers and veterans.

Annie Artis is proud to tell employers she’s a veteran.
“I use it in my resume, in the top part,” she said. “I let everyone know I’m a veteran.”
Artis is the Department of Veterans Affairs Orlando Medical Center’s veteran’s community employment coordinator. Among other things, she teaches a weekly employment class at the Viera Outpatient Clinic, 2900 Veterans Way. That’s on Tuesdays, 1 to 3 p.m. She said the class is open to any enrolled in the VA.
“The program is designed for homeless veterans, but we don’t turn away any veterans,” she said.
Last month VA launched a new program, the Homeless Veteran Community Employment Services. The program counts on employment coordinators at the VA’s 152 medical centers cultivating relationships with area employers. The VA has a goal of ending veteran’s homelessness within the next few years, and this is one part of the solution, it believes.
