County recognizes United Veterans for vans

Last was best March 15 at the St. Lucie County Commissioners meeting in Fort Pierce, as the United Veterans of St. Lucie County Inc. were recognized by the full commission for their campaign to purchase four new buses to transport veterans to the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach.
Preceding the United Veterans were certificates awarded to the county’s surveyors and mappers, the county chapter of the American Red Cross and the county’s efforts toward helping protect crime victims’ rights.
County Clerk Joseph E. Smith read out the proclamation, which acknowledged “the outstanding effort in securing four vans to transport the veterans.”
The United Veterans, led by Vice Chairman Roy Brewer, secured a state grant for $265,408, and the United Veterans provided $26,540. Brewer wrote the grant that secured the funds.
