Strong local support for Secretary Eric Shinseki

The House of Representatives voted to give Secretary Eric Shinseki more authority to fire senior Department of Veterans Affairs employees, but Senate leadership has delayed the proposal.

On Wednesday, May 21, the House of Representatives approved H.R. 4031, the Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act, which would give Shinseki, and future secretaries, more authority to terminate executives at the VA.

The House passed the bill with 390 votes. Among those voting for the bill were representatives Bill Posey, R-Rockledge, and Patrick Murphy, D-Jupiter.
