My story being a veteran is not about war or killing — it’s how things in life can affect you. I went to Vietnam in 1966 with the Army 25th Infantry Division out of Hawaii. My job (MOS) was a clerk. I went to Vietnam by ship, and did nothing but think about the family I left behind. When we arrived, we went to shore by landing crafts (remember the movie “Saving Private Ryan”). I was the first person on the right side up against the door, and when we hit the beach, the door went down and so did I. What a way to start the day.
