TREASURE COAST — Since NFL running back Ray Rice started making national headlines for punching his fiancée, Janay Palmer, and knocking her out on an elevator, more women are seeking help for domestic violence.
Spikes like this happen often when high profile cases happen, according to Jill Borowicz, CEO of the Treasure Coast SafeSpace, an organization that helps women facing domestic violence issues.
“Last Monday, our calls tripled. We usually get two or three a day. Now, we’re getting about 12,” Borowicz said.
