We met on his boat in Stuart, on a Jan. 26 that can’t decide whether to be rainy or sunny. Roman A. “Doc” Swiezy doesn’t care what the weather does — the engine has been acting up, and it needs fixing.
He’s tall and fit, with a full head of hair that seems to be just beginning to go gray, and has an engaging grin. Having just recently experienced a mini-stroke, he walks a bit more slowly than he used to, he says, but nonetheless clambers up and down between the engine and the upper deck.
Born July 29, 1918, in Rhode Island, the Army veteran has certainly packed in a lot of colorful history over the years.
