Former Army Sgt. Jay Harris, left, has been hired full-time at Dogs For Life, Vero Beach. He is seen here with Marine veteran Daniel Votrobek, who, along with his dog, Ariel, is undergoing training for special needs.
Part of the mission of Dogs For Life, Vero Beach, is providing training for returning warriors and their canine companions to help tackle the daily challenges of life.
Now, Army veteran Jay Harris is going to continue his mission of training and helping full-time — up till now, he has been working on a contract basis.
Dogs For Life board president Eleanor Bengyak said, “Since the Assistance Dog Training and Administrative Center has opened, the number of people and dogs in training has doubled.
“Jay is a team player, dedicated to the DFL mission. He has been contracting with us for five years, and who better to assist in the training of our heroes than someone who has ‘been there?’
“Dogs For Life is proud and honored to bring Jay from a contractual status to a full-time employee. We need the additional help with training, especially with the increase in the number of military veterans we are working with.”
