At precisely noon Dec. 12, at cemeteries all across the U.S., evergreen wreaths were laid in tribute to veterans in remembrance of the holiday season.
In Port St. Lucie, a ceremony was held under warm and sunny skies, attended by local dignitaries and a crowd of about 100 veterans, family and friends.
Air Force veteran Roy Brewer, of the United Veterans of St. Lucie County, served as master of ceremonies. Air Force veteran Diane Almodovar is the chair of the St. Lucie County Wreaths campaign.
“Here in America, we’re free to worship, travel and vote as we wish,” Brewer said in his opening remarks. “We have the right to succeed, and the right to fail in whatever we do. Because we value freedom, justice and equality, we serve as a shining beacon to the world.”
