For Veteran Voice
My husband, Ernie, is retired Navy, so we qualify to fly space-available (Space-A), and have flown in C-5s and C-17s.
It’s a real adventure.
“Space A travel is a means by which members of the United States Uniformed Services ACTIVE military, reservists and retired military and their families are permitted to fly on military cargo planes usually from different military bases which have different destinations,” according to military sources.
Since 9/11, it’s difficult to search for information giving different destinations, but the internet is helpful, and there is a “Flying Space-A” booklet available on most bases.
